Don and Laurie Ennis play many ballroom dance favorites at the Pullen Dance. I had an opportunity to talk with Don Ennis yesterday at the dance. He was there with his other band, The Dons. He said that he’s been playing at the Pullen Dance for 35 years. This is the kind of music that ballroom was made for, smooth and danceable. One of the dancers remarked that, “You don’t hear this level of playing anywhere else at dances in the research triangle area. It’s rhythmic and very danceable.” The night I spoke with Don Ennis, the dance floor was filled with a good mix of seasoned dancers and novices. One of the great things about this dance is the intimacy with the band. You can interact with them. You can talk with them, make requests, tell them how much you appreciate their music. Pullen dance is a real friendly community and a fun place to spend time with old friends or meet some new ones.
